The Winter Bicycles “Traditions” bicycle started with a lugset and an idea. The set was started by Peter Weigle and carved from Bocama lugs in the Singer style. This set was a nod and tribute to Ernest Csuka, a man that influenced the genre. Cycles Alex Singer has long been known as one of the premier constructeur shops from the golden era of French cyclotouring. In 1944 Ernest Csuka started working at the shop, which he eventually took over in 1962. Singers are known for the integration of the design and the attention to details and finishing.
The Winter “Traditions” draws on this lineage of integrated detail and modern design. This lugs made their way to Winter Bicycles, where they were further refined in shape, and paired with a custom cut bottom bracket shell and S&S travel coupler set in a matching pattern. The bicycle is designed for travel with Sram E-tap wireless shifting and hydro/ mechanical TRP HYRD disc brakes. Carbon 650b rims and Compass 42mm tires spin on DT Swiss hubs. These hubs are custom engraved with the Winter plum logo, echoed on the custom Leh leather saddle covering. The frame, fork, “French Point” Winter stem and Eriksen seatpost are ceramic coated with gold lug lining in the traditional style (paint work by Todd Eroh).
To use Peter’s words “we are all “links in the chain”. From Ernest to Peter to me; I say “chapeau, gentlemen”.
